Baby star

Baby star

The rate at which a newborn grows is nothing short of astonishing.

According to direct experiences of mine, we are talking about a mass growth rate of 20% monthly, looking at the first month.
Considering another slightly different measurement, in the first 4 months the weight doubled.

I quickly calculated what would happen if a baby kept growing at this rate all their life.

Growing curves for the 2 slightly different rates (source).

Right out of university (provided they wanted to go, obviously), they'd be roughly the mass of planet Earth.

In their early 30s, they'd be as massive as our Sun.

Let them grow close to their retirement and their mass would surpass that of the ordinary matter in the observable universe.

I think it's funny to see how, in a time scale that is a negligible blink compared to the history of the mass involved, such a growth rate would play out.
As you hear all the time especially related to money, compound interest is somewhat unintuitive, the actual outcome often underestimated.
